Installing this release
This build is not notarized by Apple. macOS may require you to allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway after the first launch attempt.
- Download and install.
Open 2Shift.dmg and drag 2Shift to Applications. Requires macOS 14.3 or later. - Choose your option.
Start with 20 free requests a day, with no key needed. Or add your own OpenAI API key in Settings for no daily 2Shift limit. - Enable Accessibility.
The setup guide opens the relevant settings. Turn on 2Shift so it can replace selected text. - Select text and press fn ⇧⇧.
Keep the selection in place until the result arrives. Review the result before you send it; use your editor’s Undo if needed.

Free requests, protected key
We keep the service API key on our server. It is never included in the app. We process your selection and keep a daily usage counter to enforce the free allowance.
Your key, direct to OpenAI
With your own key, your selected text goes directly to OpenAI over HTTPS. The key stays in macOS Keychain and is never sent to 2Shift.
No writing history in 2Shift
We don’t keep your text as a writing history. Free mode stores allowance and abuse-prevention metadata. OpenAI’s data policies apply to both options. Read the privacy details.

Is 2Shift really free?
Yes. The app costs €0 and includes 20 requests per Mac per day, paid by 2Shift. No card, account or API key is needed. You can also add your own OpenAI API key; that option has no daily 2Shift limit, and OpenAI bills your API usage separately.
What happens after 20 free requests?
The included allowance resets at 00:00 UTC. Wait until then, or switch to your own API key in Settings. The allowance is per Mac, tracked using an installation identifier stored in Keychain. Shared network and service safety limits also apply to prevent abuse. We cannot guarantee free-service availability.
Does my ChatGPT subscription include API usage?
No. Free mode is paid by 2Shift, so you don’t need a ChatGPT or OpenAI account. If you choose your own key, OpenAI API charges are separate from ChatGPT Free, Plus or Pro. 2Shift does not access your ChatGPT conversations.
Does it keep running when I close the window?
Yes. Closing the setup window or menu keeps 2Shift running in the menu bar. Enable Launch at login in Settings to start it with your Mac session. Quit stops the app.
Which apps are supported?
2Shift is designed for editable text fields that support macOS Accessibility or standard copy and paste. Compatibility varies by app and field. Password fields, read-only content and some custom editors are not supported; selecting text alone does not guarantee it can be replaced.
How fast is a replacement?
2Shift reads the selection and sends one request — through the free service or directly to OpenAI with your own key — then pastes the result. Timing depends on text length, your connection and the API. The app shows progress and lets you cancel. There is no fixed response-time guarantee.
What if I keep typing while it works?
2Shift checks the original app, field and selection before pasting. If you change the context, it leaves your text alone and makes the result available from Copy result in the menu.
Is my text stored or used for training?
2Shift does not keep a writing history. Free requests pass through our server; personal-key requests go directly to OpenAI. In both cases, OpenAI receives the selected text to process your request. Its retention and data controls apply; see OpenAI’s data policy. We do not promise zero retention by OpenAI.
I used the old beta. What changes?
Download this release to replace the old app in Applications. Choose 20 free daily requests or your own API key during setup. No beta licence, waiting list, signup or paid 2Shift plan is needed. You may need to re-enable Accessibility after upgrading.
